Spain Park sophomore JD Thompson claimed the 2026 AHSAA State Decathlon championship and senior Katharine Lee of Auburn won the 2026 Heptathlon state title on Tuesday at Hoover High School.
Thompson posted 6,250 points to edge senior Nic Fallin of Fairview High School, who finished second with 6,205 points. West Point’s Asa Sutter took third place with 5,955 points.
Auburn’s Lee won the Heptathlon championship with 4,857 points. Amiah Matone of Saraland was runner-up with 4,498 points and Fort Payne’s Lydie Varnadore finished third with 4,246 points.
