TATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The finish line of the TD Five Boro Bike Tour turned into a celebration for a cause, as a post-ride fundraiser in Rosebank raised more than $20,000 for a Staten Island camp serving children with cancer.
More than 32,000 cyclists rode the 40-mile, car-free route through all five boroughs on May 3 during the event’s 48th year. The ride, which began in lower Manhattan and ended at Fort Wadsworth, is widely considered the nation’s largest charitable bike tour.
After crossing the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Staten Island, dozens of riders and supporters gathered at Don Cheech restaurant for the “Cycle for Sunrise Brunch,” a fundraiser benefiting the Lucille & Jay Chazanoff Sunrise Day Camp–Staten Island.
