CDOT tracking uptick in motorcyclist deaths

THORNTON, Colo. — Thomas Berkheim, a motorcycle rider, said he is still recovering after a hit-and-run crash in Thornton left him injured, without answers and questioning how safe Colorado roads are for riders.

Berkheim said he was riding his 2023 Harley Road Glide near East 120th Avenue and Fairfax Street on April 20 when a black Jeep struck him and sped away. Berkheim said he was able to avoid a more serious crash, but suffered back pain and emotional distress that has lingered weeks later.

Berkheim claimed the driver of the Jeep nearly collided with his wife in her car behind him. Then the Jeep swerved to get directly behind Berkheim. He claimed while he was looking back, he saw the Jeep advance towards him and all he had time to do was prepare for impact…
