Milwaukee resident Ace Vue is set to be sentenced Tuesday in Ozaukee County after pleading no contest in February to charges stemming from a Memorial Day 2025 wrong-way crash that killed an Oostburg couple and seriously injured their daughter. The hearing caps a year-long criminal case that prosecutors say began when a red Lexus made a U-turn on I-43 and drove straight into oncoming traffic.
Vue pleaded no contest to two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and one count of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle, and prosecutors are pushing for a long stretch behind bars. According to CBS 58, the state is recommending 20 years in prison followed by 15 years of extended supervision, with the sentencing hearing set for May 12 at 3 p.m.
Case background
Investigators say dashcam footage from Vue’s Lexus shows him blowing past roughly two dozen cars and hitting speeds above 100 mph before turning into the northbound lanes. Officials say his vehicle was traveling about 92 mph at the moment of impact. The crash happened near mile marker 110 on I-43 by the County Highway H overpass and left Jay Horne, 56, and Nicole Horne, 51, dead while their 22-year-old daughter Alissa sustained life-altering injuries, according to Ozaukee Press.
Crash and response
First responders pulled Vue from the red Lexus and took him to a hospital with serious injuries before he was later booked into the Ozaukee County Jail. Multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle barreling the wrong way, and Port Washington police officers actually saw the head-on collision from the Highway H overpass, details investigators included in the criminal complaint as reported by FOX6 News Milwaukee.
Family and community
Friends and neighbors of the Horne family have rallied in the months since the crash, organizing fundraising drives to help cover medical and funeral costs. A local Culver’s fundraiser pulled in more than $21,000 in a single day, and local coverage shows that a GoFundMe and other donations have pushed the memorial fund into the tens of thousands. Oostburg State Bank is managing the fund, according to WHBL.
Legal notes
As part of Vue’s plea deal, seven other felony counts were dismissed but will be “read in” at sentencing, which means the judge can still consider the conduct behind them. According to CBS 58, Judge Sandy Williams can impose the statutory maximums for the current convictions, which add up to about 92.5 years, although prosecutors have specifically asked for a 20-year prison term followed by extended supervision…
