Woman allegedly set fire inside Ladue church, now facing charges

LADUE, Mo. — A woman was charged on Tuesday after police said she intentionally started a fire inside a church in Ladue, Missouri.

Janiya Van was charged with one count of knowingly burning or exploding, a Class E felony, in connection with a May 8 fire at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

According to the probable cause statement, police were called to the church on North Warson Road for a report of arson. When officers arrived, the person who called said they were working in the church and smelled smoke coming from the rear chapel.
