Four people displaced by Syracuse apartment fire

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) — Four people were displaced by a fire in Syracuse on Wednesday night.

A call came in around 7:45 p.m. about a fire at North State Street, according to Onondaga County 911. Lucas Tortorella, executive deputy chief with the Syracuse Fire Department, told NewsChannel 9 | LocalSYR.com said that once firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the apartment building’s fourth floor.

Four people who lived in the apartment where the fire started were displaced by the fire, Tortorella said. The blaze originated from an apartment bedroom and the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes. Crews then worked on ventilating smoke out of the building. He noted two rooms in the apartment received fire and water damage.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Tortorella said at the time. He said all of the building’s other tenants were evacuated and would be able to return to their apartments shortly…
