City to remove Ballard encampment as neighboring businesses raise housing concerns

SEATTLE — The city of Seattle is gearing up to remove a homeless encampment in Ballard as neighboring business owners and building managers raise questions about shelter space.

The area near 9th Avenue and 48th Street, north of Leary, has seen a rotation of encampments, and people are calling on the city to help find more housing.

People living at the encampment on Wednesday were given a day’s notice to move their belongings from the street and a tarp-covered shelter built from plywood.
