Woman sentenced after NC man went missing following argument over her, DA says

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – District Attorney Andrew Murray said a woman has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of a man who went missing in 2022.

Murray said 36-year-old Cecelia Ann Goodman received an active prison sentence of 190 to 240 months after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

The sentencing comes after officials said Daniel Case, 47, of Hendersonville, went missing in September 2022. Investigators said Case did not show up for work at the Meritor plant in Fletcher, which his employer reported as unusual. Officials said attempts to reach him by phone and through emergency contacts were unsuccessful.

According to officials, Goodman was found the following month driving a vehicle registered to Case after she told law enforcement she had last seen him with Shane Archie Waters, 53, on Pinnacle Mountain Road.

Murray said Goodman claimed she was driving Case’s car with Case in the back seat and Waters in the passenger seat when the two men began arguing over her. She told investigators she pulled over several times and the men got out to fight, then she heard three gunshots from the woods…
