Man accused of two Boston killings to remain in jail despite latest trial delay

A man accused of carrying out two fatal shootings in September 2017 was denied bail on Wednesday despite spending more than eight years behind bars awaiting trial.

Lance Holloman was scheduled to go on trial on May 4, but Judge Diane Freniere delayed the case by six months so his defense could fully investigate newly disclosed evidence about the Massachusetts State Police crime lab. Freniere agreed with the defense that the latest delay was a change in circumstance that warranted her considering whether to release Holloman.

Holloman has been held without bail since 2017, when he was arrested, then indicted, in connection with the killings of Scott Stevens Jr. and Michaela Gingras, who were shot in unrelated incidents. Holloman is also accused of carrying out other acts of violence on the day of the killings, including ramming a rented Jeep into a Porsche on Interstate 93 and shooting Stevens’ father, Scott Stevens Sr…
