EVPL to host Baptisttown walking tour presentation and discussion

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The Evansville Vanderburgh County Historical Society will soon host a walking tour of historic Baptisttown.

According to EVPL, it will take place at 1 p.m. on May 16. Officials say it will begin with a presentation in the Large Group Room of Central Library.

The presentation will be led by Evansville African American Museum founding board secretary Watez G. Phelps and recent University of Southern Indiana graduate Gloria Hinterscher. Library officials say the program will cover Baptisttown’s role as a refuge for Black families migrating from the South after emancipation through the 1970s, along with its food culture and professional achievements…
