FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A fresh coat of pink paint on one of Fort Wayne’s historic homes is drawing criticism from preservation advocates and sparking debate over how historic buildings should be maintained.
The former Baltes Mansion, now home to the downtown Women’s Care Center, recently underwent renovations ahead of its opening. But after the exterior was painted bright pink, ARCH Fort Wayne and northeastern Indiana’s historic preservation organization publicly criticized the decision in a social media post.
“An amazing house, designed by noted local architects Wing and Mahurin, was painted Pepto-Bismol pink over incredibly beautiful stonework,” the organization wrote. “We can do better, we have to do better.”…
