San Antonio man arrested in Laplace burglary, deputies say

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a San Antonio man in connection with the burglary of a Laplace business where several items, including a firearm, were stolen.

Joseph Smith, a convicted felon who identified himself as homeless, was arrested Monday and booked into the parish jail under an $85,000 bond, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 7:48 a.m. Monday to the 1700 block of Chantilly Drive after receiving a report of a business burglary. While searching the building for a possible intruder, deputies found multiple office desk drawers open and rummaged through, according to the sheriff’s office…
