[1] NM Attorney General agrees to temporarily not enforce Immigrant Safety Act – The New Mexico Department of Justice has agreed to temporarily not enforce a state law that bans local governments from contracting with ICE. Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice threatened an injunction to stop the law from going into effect. But in a stipulation filed in federal court on Wednesday, Attorney General Raúl Torrez said that he would not enforce the law for now. The feds are also suing the city of Albuquerque over its Safer Community Places ordinance, which bars city property from being used as staging areas for immigration enforcement.
[2] Rio Rancho Police turn over investigation into BCSO sergeant’s death to Bernalillo County DA – The Rio Rancho Police Department released the findings on Monday of their investigation into the crash that killed BCSO Sergeant Michael Schlattman. RRPD took over the investigation, and their report cites the semi driver’s inattention as a contributing factor, along with sun glare, and the position of the patrol vehicle. RRPD recommends that the driver be charged with careless driving. The report has been submitted to the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office.
[3] Rain moves east, still warm and breezy weather – Winds will increase Thursday afternoon, with westerly gusts of 25 to 40 mph. That west wind will also bring even hotter temperatures to eastern New Mexico, with highs near 100° in the southeast.
