EUGENE, Ore. – A young person in crisis climbed on top of a Lane Community College building and was safely brought down by deputies trained in crisis negotiation.
Deputies rushed to the LCC campus in emergency mode on May 13 around 4 p.m. after family members reported the young person was on top of a building. The young person was upset and stayed near the edge of the roof while deputies worked to help. Two of the deputies who responded are members of the Lane County Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team. They talked with the young person and worked to calm the situation while other deputies spoke with family members to learn what led to the crisis. Fire and EMS crews arrived with emergency equipment, including a ladder truck. After more than 20 minutes of negotiation, the young person came down from the roof unharmed around 5 p.m…
