BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday that a portion of the Kings River, north of Kern County, will be closed to motorized watercraft until further notice due to dangerous water levels and flow.
Officials said an assessment of the river showed numerous hazards, including sand bars, tree trunks, logs, and wood debris just below the surface of the water in several areas.
These hazards are unseen in the water, which create danger for any motorized watercraft such as boats or jet skis.
The river remains open to swimming or floating despite the temporary restriction on motorized watercraft.
