BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET/KSEE) – Two of the three candidates who want to represent California’s 16th Senate District went head-to-head in a debate on Wednesday, hoping to convince the voters that they are the right candidate to represent their constituency in Sacramento.
Bakersfield Vice Mayor Manpreet Kaur (D) and business owner Guillermo Gonzalez (R) discussed multiple issues facing voters in the Central Valley district, including California’s sanctuary laws, commercial driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, the state’s gas tax, minimum wage and who should replace Gavin Newsom as California’s next governor.

Sanctuary laws
On the subject of California’s sanctuary status, Manpreet Kaur said she wanted to keep the status quo.
