71-year-old identified as armed robbery suspect killed in Greensboro crash

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A 71-year-old has been identified as the robbery suspect who died after being thrown from an SUV during a crash on Summit Avenue on May 7, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

At around 6:45 p.m. on May 7, officers came to the Walgreens on East Bessemer Avenue after getting a report of an armed subject.

As the police made their way to the scene, they were told that the suspect had left in a black SUV and was driving northbound on Summit Avenue.

Officers then saw the suspect’s vehicle pull into a parking lot in the 1100 block of Summit Avenue. As the SUV left the lot, an officer pulled behind the SUV and tried to stop it by activating blue lights with a short siren burst.

Police say that the driver of the SUV did not pull over and instead sped up and drove away from the officer. Officers deactivated their lights, chose not to give chase and lost sight of the SUV…
