Sentence handed down in Charlotte hit-and-run crash that killed 18-year-old Mormon missionary

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man charged in a 2025 hit-and-run that killed an 18-year-old Mormon missionary has been sentenced after entering a guilty plea, according to Mecklenburg County court records.

Tyzhaun Carney pleaded guilty to multiple charges tied to the May 1, 2025, crash on Beatties Ford Road, including involuntary manslaughter, two felony hit-and-run counts involving serious injury or death, misdemeanor child abuse, and driving while license revoked.

Court records show Carney was sentenced to an active prison term of 31 to 47 months.

Traveling 72 mph in a 35 mph zone
