GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina could remove the emissions inspections requirement for the last 19 counties in the state still using them. The EPA agreed with the state, saying ending the requirement would save millions of dollars.
Tim French, the owner of Affordable Auto Repair and Service in Gaston County, said losing emissions inspections would affect his business. In North Carolina, inspections cost $30, and he keeps around $23.75 of the expense.
“I’m losing five of those a day, that’s over $100, which doesn’t seem like a lot. But when you compound that for an entire month, you know the bottom line for the entire month, it just adds up to be a lot,” he said…
