Trial date set for Florida man facing murder charge in Carter Lake investigation

(Council Bluffs) — A trial date is set for a Florida man facing murder charges in a Carter Lake homicide investigation.

According to Iowa District Court records, 37-year-old Joseph Edward Bertolino is expected to appear in Pottawattamie County District Court in June for an arraignment and is facing a 1st degree murder charge, a class A felony. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Bertolino is accused of killing 63-year-old Kenneth Guaff at the Country Inn and Suites hotel in Carter Lake late last month.

Iowa DCI officials say that Bertolino was arrested in Lincoln on April 28th after he allegedly attacked a police officer at an Arby’s. Investigators say that while he was in custody, Bertolino made “concerning statements” in regard to an incident at the Carter Lake hotel that had happened earlier that day. Authorities say that at the same time they received the tip from Lincoln police, a witness had also requested a welfare check on a male subject at the Carter Lake hotel…
