Staff cuts could come to Northside ISD as district tackles $38M budget shortfall

Northside Independent School District may cut staff positions this summer to help save $17.5 million while trying to close a $38 million budget gap. Superintendent John Craft said this week that he doesn’t expect anyone will be out of a job, but some employees may have to change positions.

“No one’s going to be losing a job. Displaced? A different job? Yes. Very, very possibly,” Craft said.

San Antonio’s largest school district, with about 97,000 students enrolled, is weighing its options for financial sustainability, while hoping to retain its character as a large, diverse district with an array of academic, vocational and extracurricular programs. One possibility is school closures that could occur as early as the 2027-28 school year…
