SpaceX Taps Goldman Sachs to Lead Record-Breaking IPO

SpaceX has selected Goldman Sachs to take the lead role on its upcoming initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, according to sources familiar with the matter. Morgan Stanley will follow as a key underwriter, with Bank of America, Citigroup, and JPMorgan Chase also involved in the offering.

The aerospace company founded by Elon Musk is expected to publicly release its IPO prospectus as early as Wednesday, after confidentially filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last month. This move could mark one of the largest public offerings to date, with SpaceX’s valuation recently estimated at $1.25 trillion following its merger with Musk’s AI startup, xAI, earlier this year.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The IPO is anticipated to take place amid a surge of high-profile technology offerings, particularly from companies linked to artificial intelligence. For example, a recent Nasdaq debut of an AI chipmaker closed with a market capitalization near $95 billion, signaling strong investor appetite for AI-driven businesses.

SpaceX aims to enter the public markets ahead of other major AI players like OpenAI and Anthropic, both privately valued at nearly $1 trillion and reportedly considering public offerings this year.

This announcement comes shortly after Musk faced a legal setback in a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. Musk had accused OpenAI of breaching its original nonprofit status, but a California jury ruled that Musk’s lawsuit was filed too late. The judge adopted this verdict, although Musk has stated he plans to appeal the decision.

Goldman Sachs’ leading role in SpaceX’s IPO follows its position as the top underwriter in other recent major tech listings, working alongside firms such as Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase.

Industry observers are watching closely, anticipating a landmark IPO that could reshape the market landscape for aerospace and AI ventures alike.
