(KRQE) – A family is mourning after an Albuquerque man was killed while riding his bicycle to work by a driver who took off after the crash. 47-year-old Robert Montoya, described by his family as a big teddy bear. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, and his sister shares how shocking this loss has been.

A tragic hit-and-run claimed the life of Robert Montoya on Monday. Montoya was riding his bike to his job at a cannabis shop in the morning when he was hit by a car near Carlisle Blvd. and Candelaria Rd. “He was on his way to work. He was less than a block away. He was almost there when he got hit,” said Arlene Montoya, Robert’s older sister.

Arlene said the news came as a shock. She said her brother loved to ride his bicycle and wanted to help the planet. “He was concerned about the environment. So, he was always trying to get me to buy an electric car. And I’m like, I don’t want an electric car. But yeah, that was his source of transportation. He rode his bike everywhere,” said Montoya…
