ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The National Weather Service has updated its survey of the May 16, 2025 tornado in St. Louis after months of closely analyzing satellite data, uncovering major new findings about the storm’s size and structure.
Perhaps the biggest update: The tornado’s width is now considered much larger than initially thought, nearly 1.8 miles in size. That is by far the widest tornado record in the St. Louis region dating back to 1950, when such data was first available.
