I’m a fifth-generation Fort Worthian, and I live in Westcliff by Texas Christian University. The TCU neighborhood is very vibrant and kind of eclectic. When I was deciding where to live over 20 years ago, I was drawn to this area. I later learned from my mom that some of my relatives had lived in this area, so maybe it was genetic! I’ve been blessed to travel over the course of my life, and people would always say, “Have you ever thought about moving away from Fort Worth?” I would always say, “Nope!”
I’ve enjoyed getting to know my neighbors here over the last 20 or so years. They are from many different walks of life, and many from different countries or states. They are genuinely warm people and ready to lend a helping hand. Now, it’s about 60% students, and they can be kind of rocking on game day.
I like that my neighborhood is close to many things. There’s a lot of wonderful businesses. Ace Hardware has some of the coolest stuff you’ll ever see in a hardware store. We’ve got massage therapists, we’re close to the arts, churches, parks. We have Foster Park just five minutes to the south of us and the Fort Worth Botanic Garden to the north. My parents were engaged at the botanic garden in the late 1950s. My sister took her wedding photos there. I’ve attended friends’ weddings there, went on dates, and studied there while working my way through TCU. I love that I have so many memories tied to Fort Worth…
