LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A hot and breezy Saturday is taking shape. It’s a hot one for sure, with minimal changes to heat and temperatures for now. These lighter winds are prepping us for even gustier winds tomorrow as a stronger shortwave blows through our area.
This front will make a big impact with blowing dust and debris as these southwest winds will activate a High Wind Warning. Wind speeds of 25-35 are expected Sunday, with gusts up to 50-60 mph possible regionwide. This wind alert will start Sunday at 2 pm until 5 pm Monday, that’s when winds are expected to die down.

Areas like Death Valley, Pahrump, and I-15 off Primm will see an increase in patchy blowing dust, something drivers should keep an eye out for if they plan to travel, especially as strong winds extend to portions of California like Baker and Barstow.
These winds are also creating fire danger concerns for our neighbors in Northwest Arizona due to dry fuels, so a Red Flag warning is in place there until Sunday, too. For Southern Nevada, this is a bit of a dry front with rain chances possible Sunday afternoon and evening in Nye and Lincoln counties. Out in Caliente, there’s a 50% chance for scattered showers, but rainfall will depend on how much moisture saturates our area…
