LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The man accused of murdering a 3-year-old girl and injuring three adults in a Feb. 13 Delta Township attack has been deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial by state psychological officials.
Alexander Banks, Jr., 21, is accused of driving into a family, getting out of the car, shooting the family and using a shotgun to bludgeon a neighbor who intervened.
Two of the adults — a 33-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man — were injured with gunshot wounds. They were identified as the parents of the 3-year-old who died at the scene. A third adult — a 72-year-old woman — had serious injuries. Officials said the woman attempted to stop the attack and was beaten with the shotgun.
