Scam Alert: Hall authorities warn of bail bond scams

As scams become more prevalent and scammers grow increasingly sophisticated, AccessWDUN will run a monthly series detailing current scams and how residents can protect themselves.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Marcus Davenport discussed bail bond scams, where scammers exploit family members of incarcerated individuals by impersonating law enforcement.

“We have individuals that are contacting different jurisdictions, and it’s usually a family member of whoever’s been contacted has gone to jail, and their information is posted via the internet,” Davenport said “Obviously, and they are then turning around and using that information to call family members and say, ‘Hey, we can get your loved one out of jail as long as they pay for this class or pay a bond’, or just any new number of things, and essentially all they’re trying to do is just get as much money as they can, as quickly as they can, and then dash away.”
