CDC reports drop in smoking, rise in vaping use

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Smoking rates have dropped to a record low, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but vaping continues to rise among users.

A doctor with the Cleveland Clinic says there are several reasons people may prefer vaping over traditional cigarettes, including the availability of flavored products and the perception that vaping produces less harmful emissions than smoking.

Some users also believe vaping is safer than smoking, a misconception the doctor says is not supported by research. Studies show vaping can be just as harmful to a person’s health, affecting the lungs, heart and even the brain…
