Dave Matthews Band debuted a cover of prescient Buffalo Springfield protest staple “For What It’s Worth” on Friday outside Atlanta. The concert at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, GA also featured Matthews’ 1,000th career performance of “Don’t Drink the Water”, per DMBAlmanac.
Though DMB notably interpolated “For What It’s Worth” during a memorable “Jimi Thing” with special guest Warren Haynes in New York’s Central Park in 2003 (released later that year as The Central Park Concert), Friday marked the group’s first-ever full performance of the song. Matthews has previously covered it solo and with guitarist Tim Reynolds as recently as last year’s Dave & Tim Riviera Maya getaway in Mexico. He also shared a pandemic-friendly version of the song in 2020.
