Franklin apartment fire under investigation

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Officials with the Franklin Fire Department are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged an apartment building Monday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to The Whitney Apartments along Magnolia Drive around 9:08 a.m. Monday after a teacher at nearby Freedom Intermediate School spotted and reported the fire. Crews confirmed an active fire on a second floor balcony of the 12-unit, two-story building.

According to a Monday afternoon press release from the FFD, residents and property managers had already started evacuating the building before firefighters arrived. Everyone was accounted for, and no injuries were reported with the fire.

Assistant Fire Marshal Jonathan Dye said the fire significantly damaged the unit in which it started and moderately damaged the apartment unit directly below it, estimating the damage to be around $275,000…
