STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Months after he was charged with killing and then decapitating his mother’s live-in boyfriend, Damien Hurstel is having flashbacks of what happened, his lawyers said Monday in state Supreme Court, St. George.
Hurstel, 19, has for the first time since his arrest been receiving steady medication on Rikers Island, which his attorneys say has apparently jogged his memory.
“The medication is starting to take effect and he’s starting to come around; he’s starting to be able to speak to us coherently, and he’s starting to remember flashbacks of the incident so we can kind of grasp what happened,” said attorney Mark J. Fonte after the hearing Monday…
