County Steps Up Patrols at Mosques After San Diego Shooting

LOS ANGELES – Law enforcement agencies increased patrols around mosques, Islamic centers, and other houses of worship across Los Angeles County Monday after a deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego left five people dead, including two suspected gunmen.

San Diego police said the shooting happened Monday morning in Clairemont while a school operating at the mosque was in session. Authorities said two gunmen, believed to be 17 and 19, opened fire before dying from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. A security guard at the center was among the three victims killed.

Sheriff’s officials said they were “actively assessing any potential threat to Los Angeles County” and had increased patrol checks at critical facilities…
