Gov. Dan McKee said it is time for Providence Public Schools to return to local control, according to a statement.
A spokesperson for McKee released the following statement:
“The Governor is pleased that the State intervention in Providence Schools has resulted in measurable progress on a number of fronts, including gains in academic achievement, facility enhancements and construction and attendance improvements, and he believes that the time has come to transition the district to local control. He continues to work with the Commissioner of Education and the Council of Elementary and Secondary Education on a plan to return the schools to local control, and he will conduct a careful review of any related legislation if and when it reaches his desk.”…
