Oregon’s top musical theater kids will descend on downtown Eugene next month for the Hult High School Musical Theatre Awards, a high-stakes awards ceremony and showcase recognizing the state’s best performances and stagecraft.
Participating students come from 18 high schools across Oregon, and a number of those come from high school productions in Lane County.
Lane County nominees come from three productions: Sheldon High School’s “Newsies,” Churchill High School’s “Urinetown” and South Eugene High School’s “The Addams Family: School Edition.”
Sheldon’s “Newsies” has six nominations:
- Outstanding overall musical production
- Male identifying outstanding performer in a leading role: Charlie Stanford as Jack Kelly
- Male identifying outstanding performer in a supporting role: CJ Jones as Davey and Nick Guldager as Crutchie
- Outstanding performance by an ensemble group
- Outstanding performance by an orchestra
- Outstanding costume design
South Eugene’s “The Addams Family: School Edition” has four nominations:
- Female identifying outstanding performer in a leading role: Sydney Therrell as Wednesday Addams
- Male identifying outstanding performer in a leading role: Nate Rosenfeld as Gomez Addams
- Outstanding scenic design
- Outstanding costume design
Churchill’s “Urinetown” has three nominations:
- Outstanding stage crew
- Outstanding scenic design
- Outstanding costume design
