Historic Bennett School demolition increasingly likely in Manassas

The historic Bennett School in Manassas is facing the growing prospect of demolition as Prince William County readies its planned $233 million judicial center expansion on the premises.

During a May 13 meeting of the county’s Joint Interjurisdictional Ad Hoc Committee alongside leaders from the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, county leaders made it clear Prince William taxpayers would not shoulder the burden for the school’s preservation.

According to a presentation from county staff, school renovation costs – including a 25% contingency fund – would amount to about $46.9 million, with an additional $7.5 million for relocation and construction of a new foundation, elevating the total to $56.25 million…
