A look inside the restored Schaab building, to be filled with dining and entertainment

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— After more than three years of restorative renovations, the former Schaab Metal building, now dubbed “Schaab Riverfront,” is ready for tenants.

In September, it was announced that Mitchell’s Downtown and Flashbacks Downtown would occupy two units. Those two establishments are under construction. They also only take up about 40% of the square footage.

“We’re ready now to try to get a couple other tenants for this side,” Don Steininger, member manager for Schaab Riverfront, said as he stood in the renovated lobby facing the Saint Marys River.

Four more units are available: three large dining spaces and a smaller retail space that Steininger said is suitable for a business such as a flower or coffee shop. He said the ground floor will be a fast-casual style restaurant.

“We’re working with a tenant right now that will take the main level,” Steininger said…
