Gov. Hochul & Mayor Mamdani extend nearly 100,000 3-K and pre-K offers

New York (WRGB) — Nearly 100,000 New York City families are getting a clearer path to early childhood education this fall, with more children placed in top-choice programs and shorter commutes for parents navigating 3-K and Pre-K.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced that the city has extended 99,921 offers for 3-K and Pre-K for the upcoming school year. The rollout includes 2,000 additional 3-K seats intended to help families find child care closer to home, made possible through direct state investment in 3-K.

Citywide, officials said average travel distance for 3-K families has decreased by six blocks. The announcement also highlighted that more families are receiving offers to one of their top-choice programs and that fewer families are ending up on waitlists…
