‘Go get checked’: Retired corrections officer encourages people to prioritize their health after surviving stroke

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – Every day, you can find Thomas Eckert walking in the neighborhood with his dog, Giant, a stroll becoming a sacred part of his routine.

“As the years go by and you work, sometimes you don’t think to take care of yourself,” he said.

The Chesterfield man worked as a corrections officer at Pamunkey Regional Jail for nearly three decades before retiring in 2024.
