Law enforcement to review ‘fraud, forgery, and attempted theft’ of King County grant money

SEATTLE — King County’s Office of the Ombuds has released an independent review that found nearly $700,000 in questionable costs tied to youth diversion and community-based programs administered through the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS).

The report, prepared by accounting firm Clark Nuber and commissioned by the Ombuds Office, reviewed 19 community organizations connected to four DCHS programs and identified $690,617 in questioned costs across 224 transactions involving 16 organizations. The review found evidence suggesting that “waste, fraud, or abuse” likely occurred in some instances and could not be ruled out in others without further investigation.
