KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The KnoxWalls Murals and Music Festival is adding a fashionable twist to its inaugural event: a muumuu competition benefiting public art programs.
The festival is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, along Emory Place in North Knoxville. In addition to the 10 Tennessee-based muralists that will be competing live throughout the day at the free festival, as well as live music and local vendors, there will also be what event organizers say is Knoxville’s first-ever MuuMuu Contest.

A play on the event’s logo, which highlights the first two letters of “MUrals and MUsic,” festival organizers say the muumuu contest is open to everyone of all ages, genders and species, including dogs. For those unfamiliar with the comfort fashion icon, a muumuu is a long dress that has bright colors and patterns and is usually long and loose-fitting, according to Merriam-Webster.
“Slip into your fiercest, funkiest, most fabulous muumuu and get ready to strut like the grocery store is your runway and the produce section is your adoring public. Channel your best Mrs. Roper vibes: big patterns, bigger personality, and enough confidence to power the whole festival,” the event website states…
