Denver stopped spraying dandelions. Here’s why the city is OK with the weeds

DENVER — If you have driven down Sixth Avenue or Monaco Parkway lately, you may have noticed that Denver Parks and Recreation has changed its approach to dandelions.

The city no longer tries to eradicate dandelions from its parks and parkways. District managers said the shift is about protecting pollinators and moving away from a chemical-heavy past.

“They’re great for our pollinators, and we feel that it’s just not the right thing to do to be spraying chemicals and killing dandelions and endangering our pollinators in the public,” northeast district park manager Dan Rockne said…
