‘He’s a con’: Two East TN women still waiting for refunds after failed fridge repairs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — An appliance repairman has not delivered on a promise he made to several of his customers that he would return their money. The repairman made the pledge after the appliances he supposedly fixed quit working.

He made the promise to at least two customers, and maybe more. We’ve been following the dealings of Phil Amos for three years. We reported that Amos made several repairs to appliances, but within days, the fixes failed. Since then, he changed the name of his operation and fraudulently started handing out business cards using the name of another appliance repair group.

Brenda O’Neill has had to buy a new used refrigerator because she says the man she hired to fix her old one ripped her off. It’s a Whirlpool side-by-side, and she has moved it to the porch at her mobile home. The refrigerator broke down in early October 2025.
