An Anderson County man is facing a DUI charge after a head-on crash on Dutch Valley Road that injured a Roane County driver.
According to an affidavit of complaint filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Travis Pate responded to a two-vehicle crash on Dutch Valley Road on May 17. The warrant identifies the driver of a gray Dodge Ram truck as Daven C. Zabower, who was later charged with driving under the influence.
The other driver, identified as Dylan Russell, 33, of Harriman, told BBB TV that he was driving a 2006 Honda Civic when Zabower’s truck crossed the center line and struck him head-on.
“He was on my side of the road coming at me and I tried to swerve to the left to miss him,” Russell said.
Russell said he suffered severe bruising around his abdomen and collarbone from the seat belt, along with bruising to his knees. He said his brother-in-law was riding in the passenger seat of his vehicle at the time of the crash. Zabower was reportedly alone in the other vehicle.
According to the affidavit, Deputy Pate reported that Zabower smelled strongly of alcohol and had red, bloodshot, watery eyes. The report also states that Zabower’s speech was slow and difficult to understand…
