2026 Memorial Day events happening in eastern Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – There are various events going on in eastern Iowa to mark Memorial Day on Monday, May 25. Here are some of the ceremonies, parades and more happening on the holiday.

Cedar Memorial (Cedar Rapids)

Cedar Memorial will hold a tribute ceremony at 11 a.m. and will feature patriotic music and a keynote address.

Honoring Our Veterans is looking for volunteers to place 8,000 American flags on the graves of the veterans buried at Cedar Memorial on Saturday, May 23. The group will begin at 8 a.m. at the Family Center and Library. No pre-registration is required. The work is expected to take two to four hours. The flags will be removed at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26.

Veterans Memorial Building (Cedar Rapids)

The Metro Veterans Council is hosting a program inside the Veterans Memorial Building. The observance begins at 10:30 a.m. includes an opening prayer, live patriotic music, presentation of the Colors, guest speaker, volley salute, and more.

Iowa City Ceremonies

The Johnson County Military Affairs Association and the American Legion Post 17 and Auxiliary have planned a series of ceremonies.

  • 8:30 AM at Park Road Bridge
  • 9:30 AM at Oakland Cemetery
  • 11 AM Memory Gardens Cemetery

Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery (Adel)

The Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs will host a ceremony starting at 8 a.m. at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery.
