A domestic dispute at a Sandy Springs apartment complex last Wednesday escalated into an hourslong standoff that pulled in SWAT negotiators, shut down part of Glenlake Parkway, and forced police to evacuate nearby units before the suspect finally gave up and was taken into custody on multiple charges.
Officers were called just after 8 a.m. to the Glen Lake apartments at 6831 Glenlake Parkway NE after a woman dialed 911 and reported she had been assaulted, according to WSB‑TV. By the time police arrived, the suspect, identified as 33‑year‑old Dennis Carter, had barricaded himself inside an apartment, and officers reported hearing what sounded like gunfire as they approached the unit.
SWAT negotiators moved in, established contact, and ultimately persuaded Carter to walk out of the apartment, where he surrendered without further incident, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
