Albuquerque officials pay tribute to police officers who died in the line of duty

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque city leaders paid tribute on Wednesday to police officers who died in the line of duty. The city hosted a law enforcement memorial on Civic Plaza, coinciding with National Police Week. A bell echoed on the plaza as the names of fallen officers were read out loud.

Raul Bujanda, the former head of Albuquerque’s FBI office and the city’s new Public Safety Director, shared his first experience of losing a colleague. He said it came on his first week on the job. “I remember being at the hospital and seeing the families and seeing the tears and just seeing their lives had been changed forever. It impacted me. But I think in a good way, because it started me on the right path to make sure I’m always going to be thinking about others and thinking about not only those we serve, but also the ones we serve alongside,” said Bujanda.

The Albuquerque Police Department said the ceremony serves as a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the officers who gave their lives in service to their community…
