CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Pet Helpers announced an emergency adoption initiative amid severe overcrowding at its shelter.
Charleston County will be covering the adoption fees for many pets through June 30, according to shelter officials. Under the initiative, Charleston County residents can adopt animals 4 months and older without paying adoption fees, though some exclusions may apply because of medical or behavioral considerations.
Pet Helpers said the shelter was originally built to house 39 dogs but is currently caring for more than 90 dogs onsite, with additional animals placed in foster homes throughout the community.
