SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After serving 34 years in the Army, Jody Barnes-Turner now leads The Fly Arts Center in Shelbyville.
The historic building, which was originally built in 1925 by Joel Orvall Fly, was once known as the “overall factory” for making work clothes and Army fatigues.

“When I retired, I thought, ‘What am I going to do now?’ I still wanted to serve, but in a different capacity,” Barnes-Turner expressed. “I still serve, but I just serve my community, and I do it in a different uniform.”
Now, The Fly is launching a public art project inspired by the “Cows on Parade” art event in Chicago, featuring life-size horses painted by local artists and displayed throughout Shelbyville.
“We bring creativity, the stage, productions, and music to our beautiful community,” added Barnes-Turner.
