Texas DPS honors fallen troopers at annual memorial service

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety honored two troopers added to its Wall of Honor during its annual Peace Officers Memorial Service Thursday.

Trooper Jerry Wayne Adamick Jr., 44, died Sept. 15, 2025, after his vehicle left the roadway on FM 945 South while he was responding to assist fellow officers on an emergency call. The vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.

Trooper Daniel Robert Shown, 66, died Feb. 27, 2026, from complications stemming from a line-of-duty injury he sustained nearly four decades earlier. On Dec. 16, 1988, Shown was responding to a report of an armed suspect who had threatened his family when the suspect opened fire on officers, striking Shown in the forehead. He lost his right eye and was permanently paralyzed on the left side of his body.
